FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Not for the first time, Triple Crown Sports has dialed up a high-energy fastpitch event packed with high-achieving club programs.
But there’s a debut element to be embraced with this week’s running of the 2024 P5event at the TCS field complex, as many of the nation’s outstanding club teams will compete not only against each other from June 27-29, but in concert with a session in the new CSE Performance Lab located on the TCS campus.
Fully armed with the best data and analytic capture technology in the sport, the Performance Lab will be made available to all attending teams as a deep dive will be made on hitting and pitching capacities. College coaches from a range of levels will be on hand to scout the teams, who are also using this tournament as a competitive jumpstart ahead of the Colorado 4th of July event, which annually brings about 1,100 rosters to the Front Range.
“The summer season is all about exposing your athletes to the very best competition there is to offer, and the P5 offers just that,” said Jim Huecker of the Louisville Lady Sluggers. “Adding the analytic piece to the experience that enables our players causal data is a value-add that is vital in our athletes’ success as well as immediate live measurements to aid in college coaches’ ability to project players at the next level.”
“If you want to become your best, you need to play the best. The P5 competition is an incredible event to help teams prepare for the big dance,” said Suzy Willemssen of the Virgina Glory. “The performance lab will allow a player to discover things about themselves they never knew. The cutting-edge analytics will provide critical in game data and performance benchmarks to help a player reach their dreams.
“Allowing college coaches to see real time game data while the athlete is playing in a competitive cauldron provides a unique opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills in a variety of ways. TCS is always on the forefront of new and exciting ways to help with a player's development. It's an honor to be a part of the inaugural P5 games and experience.”
Including the two post-high school rosters in attendance (Team Colorado and Team Canada, playing here in advance of the Canada Cup), there will be 42 teams in action at Triple Crown as well as the Rolland Moore complex in Fort Collins.
“When I had heard about the P5 tournament and the initiative behind it, I wanted our athletes to be a part of this awesome experience,” said Eric Jones of Select Fastpitch. “We’re excited for our younger athletes, as well as our committed athletes to have the opportunity to play against great competition as well as get their measurables in a state-of-the-art technology environment to put some data to their ability.
“More importantly, the opportunity to showcase this data in front of college coaches as they see the day in a live setting. Having coaches recruit in this intimate environment will be a new experience and I can’t wait to see it inaction. Our 18’s get to play Team Colorado as well in this setting and they are pumped to see some of college softballs biggest stars on the field and how the compare with some of the best. Can’t wait to get out there and get going.”
