Triple Crown Sports announces launch of CSE Performance Lab

May 31, 2024

Diamond sports have always cut an impressive figure when guided by the experienced hand of Triple Crown Sports, and the event company that has long influenced the direction of softball and baseball is proud to announce a fresh evolution in the training and preparation of athletes.

At the home site of TCS in Fort Collins, CO., the CSE Performance Lab has wrapped up construction this spring and debuts as the unquestioned national benchmark for the gathering and interpretation of player performance data. At its core the CSE Performance Lab is a mirror, a real-time reflector of what individual players can do in pursuit of hitting and pitching excellence, where clients leave with not just their current metrics captured but also with insight and roadmaps for improvement.

College Sports Evaluation (CSE), the data department within Triple Crown Sports, will oversee the execution of data collection for all athletes in pitching and hitting.

PITCHING – Arguably the most prized commodity in softball, pitching and its often-mysterious route to excellence will be revealed by CSE Performance Lab technology. Force plates measure footwork and exertion levels throughout the pitching motion; simultaneously, the lab utilizes Qualysis high-speed Markered and Markerless motion capture cameras plus Edgertronic Cameras to record the delivery mechanics that reveal the truth about spin rates, arm angles, ball flight paths, pitch movement and a battery of other numbers. A 3D model is created of the athlete’s actions – it’s all designed to be the one-stop destination for pitching evaluation.

HITTING – Just like one would find in Major League baseball settings, force plates are again available at the CSE Performance Lab to relay what the lower half is doing as weight moves from back to front. In terms of the swing, those same powerful state-of-the-art cameras shed light on how the body is executing the task from swing trigger to finish, and we will also pull the pure data on exit velocity, ball flight and other tell-tale metrics. The same 3D model the Lab can create for pitchers is also available for hitters.

While the CSE Performance Lab stands tall as a powerful tool for player data mining and mastering, Triple Crown Sports also flexes two regulation softball fields where cameras are positioned to pull numbers in the heat of competition. Many athletes will benefit from the ability to compare their metrics from inside and outside a laboratory setting.

Customers will leave with useful information that can be shared and explored with coaches and instructors back home. The CSE Performance Lab door is always open for future testing to gauge improvement, pull new numbers and create fresh conversations about what it takes to either solidify one’s journey to a college roster spot, or how a current collegiate player can raise their ceiling as an asset to the lineup.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the top-notch CSE Performance Lab,” said Kelly Salberg, Chief Data Officer of Triple Crown Sports. “Triple Crown’s commitment to putting cutting-edge tech in the hands of female softball players is unmatched, and this facility stands as the pinnacle of innovation in development and performance analysis.

“I’m so excited to see what the Lab can do in our partnerships with colleges and youth softball clubs, as we aim to help our customers succeed at every turn. And let’s not overlook the exciting prospects for teaming up in sports medicine, especially for rehabbing softball athletes. CSE and Triple Crown are leading the charge in softball innovation, showcasing the incredible talent this sport has to offer.”
